17 Generations of Healing: What Modern Medicine Still Misses
Medicine did not begin in a lab. It began in observation. In families. Passed hand to hand. Generation to generation. Somewhere along the way, care became fragmented. Symptoms treated in isolation. Systems ignored.
Dr. Yi Song grew up inside a different model. One that asks why before how. One that looks for imbalance before breakdown. In this episode, she explains why modern medicine often arrives too late, and how regenerative therapies reconnect us to something older and more complete.
Seventeen Generations Shape a Medical Lens
Dr. Yi's foundation is not theoretical. It is ancestral. A lineage that shaped how she sees health, illness, and prevention.
"My family has 17 generations practicing Chinese medicine."
Why Western Medicine Was Not Enough
Her early training followed a conventional path. Pathology. Research. Precision. Yet something felt incomplete.
"I really like the principles and approaches in Chinese medicine rather than studying one molecule for the rest of my life."
Root Cause Over Symptom Control
This is where the divide becomes clear. Suppression versus correction. Reaction versus prevention.
"The concept of Chinese medicine is about early prevention and about treating the root cause of the conditions."
Understanding Constitutional Weakness
No two bodies are built the same. Strength in one system often hides weakness in another.
"Your body has its own constitutional weakness and strength."
Harmony as a Clinical Goal
Balance is not philosophical. It is physiological. When excess and deficiency coexist, disease follows.
"We need to strengthen the weakness in your body and also moderate the strength the excess in your body."
A Holistic Vision
The goal is not to replace modern medicine. It is to complete it. To combine ancient wisdom with modern technology.
"My vision is to use all the natural resources we have and combine the knowledge from traditional Chinese medicine to recognize each person's constitution and early imbalance."

0:00 17 Generations of Healing
Regeneration Effect Team: My family has 17 generations practicing Chinese medicine. I really like the principles and approaches in Chinese medicine rather than studying one molecule for the rest of my life. So in Chinese medicine, human is considered the conduit between the universe and the earth. Your body is actually the reflection of the planetary positions. When the planet moves, it actually affects everybody's constitution in a different way.
So, we are here at LZ Energy. It's a wellness center that Dr. Yi started. Dr. Yi, tell us more about it. When did you start it?
Dr. Yi Song: I started it in 2018. I actually the first time I came to Colombia was 2017 and I fell in love with the beautiful nature here and also the energy. So that's why I decided to have a retreat center here so that I can come here to relax and I want to have other people come here to enjoy the nature.
Regeneration Effect Team: We're going to learn a lot about Dr. Yi. She's been in the wellness space for quite a long time and her passion was born through love energy. So get ready. Let's go.
Dr. Yi Song: I'm excited. Let's enter the world of energy. All right, Dr. Before we enter and explore the beautiful core that you've created, tell us about yourself. Where are you from?
I grew up in China in Beijing and my family has 17 generations practicing Chinese medicine. So, I was deeply influenced by my aunt and my great-grandparents. Then I decided I still want to pursue a western medicine career. So, that's why I came to the United States to study pathology. But then I went back to my family root in Chinese medicine because I really like the principles and approaches in Chinese medicine rather than studying one molecule for the rest of my life.
2:23 Concepts of Chinese Medicine
Regeneration Effect Team: You were just talking about Chinese medicine and I think it's amazing because not many people understand it but for those who understand it really say great things about it. I've been here for a week and I've been taking this herbal drink that you made and it's helped bring my blood pressure down. So talk about Chinese medicine. What are the concepts? Why is it important?
Dr. Yi Song: The concept of Chinese medicine is about early prevention and about treating the root cause of the conditions. So you don't want to wait until your conditions are already full-blown. You want to recognize your body's imbalance in the early stage. So you may not even have a lot of symptoms yet, but we can tell from many diagnostic methods in Chinese medicine what kind of imbalance your body has. And also your body has its own constitutional weakness and strength. So we need to strengthen the weakness in your body and also moderate the excess in your body. Then in that way your body will be in harmony.
Regeneration Effect Team: What was it that I was drinking that seemed to be very effective?
Dr. Yi Song: So that is a very traditional formula for helping people with blood pressure problem and also it helps reduce the stress.
3:49 Integrating East and West
Regeneration Effect Team: You come to study western medicine and you decide you want to integrate back to Chinese medicine. You go back to China. What is it that you do back in China when you decide you want to integrate both?
Dr. Yi Song: So I actually went back to China after I already started my Chinese acupuncture clinic in Boston and I went back to China to study with many different masters to further my understanding of the theories and also the application to help different conditions including neurological conditions like post-stroke, multiple sclerosis, and Lou Gehrig's disease even back 15 years ago.
Regeneration Effect Team: Can you talk about how does the neurological system tie into Chinese medicine?
Dr. Yi Song: So a lot of neurological conditions like multiple sclerosis and Parkinson's in Chinese medicine are considered too much wind in the body. So you need to regulate the body's blood liver system to diminish the wind that affects the body. Then you would not have the tremors or the movement issues. So that's how we look at the neurological conditions.
5:14 Nature and Planetary Energy
Regeneration Effect Team: Dr. Yi, we just talked about why the neurological system is important in Chinese medicine. Can you tell us why nature is important to people?
Dr. Yi Song: In Chinese medicine, human is considered the conduit between the universe and the earth. The human body needs to be connected to the universe and the earth. When your body is connected to the universe, you will absorb the energy from the cosmos and also your body is actually the reflection of the planetary positions. That's why which day you were born actually can determine your body's constitution a lot. When the planet moves, it actually affects everybody's constitution in a different way.
Regeneration Effect Team: Dr. Yi, tell us a little bit more. Why did you pick this place? It's beautiful. What stuck out to you about this place specifically?
Dr. Yi Song: I think it's because the year-round mild temperature so you can be outdoors very comfortably and also it doesn't have a lot of mosquitoes or other predators that you have to worry about. So you can enjoy the nature, listen to the stream, and connect your body to the earth through earthing and also connect your body to the universal energy through the air.
6:41 The Source of Life
Regeneration Effect Team: Dr. Yi, we're at this beautiful stream. The water is just crystalline. Talk about it a little bit. Why was this stream important to you?
Dr. Yi Song: The water first of all is the source of life. We need water for irrigation to grow any plants and for the animals. And also the sound of the water, I think it has the calming effect on the brain. Nowadays we have a lot of equipment to play different sounds to soothe your brain to induce certain neurological stages in your brain. So I think this is the natural way of calming your mind while doing meditation.
Regeneration Effect Team: So when people come out here do you have them stay here for a while just to meditate? Is that part of what you do?
Dr. Yi Song: Some of them like walking around. This stream actually is surrounding the whole perimeter of the property. That's the other reason why I fell in love with this property when I was looking for places. I actually looked for at least 10 places and this one gave me the best energy to my body. I can feel it.
Regeneration Effect Team: That's amazing. I was here yesterday and today after I woke up, I spent 10 minutes here just to clear my mind. I think the energy that you get from it was really able to clear your mind and just allow you to think and put things in perspective. It's been an amazing part of this experience.
8:24 The Importance of Real Food
Regeneration Effect Team: Dr. Yi, my dad is very big on food and what you eat. 35 years ago he completely cut fried food and processed food. Why is food important? At what point did you realize it was something that you wanted to make sure was part of your practice?
Dr. Yi Song: In Chinese medicine, food actually is supplying your postnatal energy. Your life cannot thrive without food. However, it has to be the natural food close to nature and also balanced to your body's constitution. So, it's not like everybody should eat the same thing. I believe your father went vegan. But then I think he also stopped being completely vegan at some point because vegan is not for everybody's body. I tried being mostly vegetarian for a while but then I became anemic. So, food shouldn't have the long processing like we have in the United States. For example, the beef sold in supermarkets is not fresh beef and then they pour pork blood on it to make it look fresh. But here, I can easily lose five to seven pounds in two weeks because the food is not highly processed. It's very natural and we can get chicken eggs every day freshly. It's very close to nature and I think that's the best thing.
10:30 Processed Food and Obesity
Regeneration Effect Team: That's very interesting. Robert F. Kennedy was part of a movement called Make America Healthy Again. Talk about the United States; why do we have an obesity problem? Why do we have a sugar problem and diabetes?
Dr. Yi Song: When we live in big cities, we don't have a lot of choices. We buy things from supermarkets and even fancy high-end supermarkets still have processed items. Our lifestyle there is mostly sedentary with high stress and we don't have time to prepare our food. It's actually good to come out here once every few months just to reconnect to nature and to get really natural food to your body. When we have so many processed foods in our diet, the toxins build up and attract fatty tissue to deposit in the area. That's why people have a hard time losing weight in that kind of environment.
Regeneration Effect Team: So when people come here, what are they eating?
Dr. Yi Song: Mostly very fresh meat and protein from eggs. Then we also make unique Asian fusion food like Japanese pancakes and healthy snacks from scratch. We don't use sugar.
Regeneration Effect Team: I ate the carrot cake yesterday and it was really good. How did you make it taste like that without sugar?
Dr. Yi Song: We use monk fruit sweetener. Monk fruit is a Chinese herbal ingredient we use for coughing and dissolving phlegm in the body, but it is also very sweet by nature. It tastes just like sugar without the aftertaste like stevia.
13:54 Understanding Body Constitution
Regeneration Effect Team: Dr. Yi, you talked about earlier figuring out the body constitution. How do you really get into finding what your body constitution is?
Dr. Yi Song: You need to recognize your body's constitution through either meditation or awareness. For example, I was born with damp heat. That means when I was born I had a lot of eczema. I also tend to accumulate phlegm in my body. In my early 20s, I didn't realize I actually have inherent digestive system weakness. I was eating processed food and too much cold, raw food, so I had a lot of gas and bloating issues. Once I recognized I need to adjust and have more warm food in my diet and eat on time, I didn't have any of those problems after that.
Regeneration Effect Team: Yeah, you go to McDonald's for instance in the US and you're getting these big burgers and large fries. It seems like that type of diet really affects you.
Dr. Yi Song: You really need to recognize your own body because for some people they can eat Burger King but they don't have any problem because their digestive system was inherently strong. But if you have any weakness, then if you keep doing that, it will cause a lot of damage. Some people have acid reflux for a long time and take inhibitors, but they don't realize they need to adjust habits like drinking ice-cold drinks. So it's not like everybody should eat vegan or raw; you have to recognize your body's particular condition.
17:16 Connection Through Nature
Regeneration Effect Team: And talk about seeing all these animals. We saw the horses and the peacock. How does that have any role?
Dr. Yi Song: That is just your connection to nature again. When you're around animals, you will feel the energy they give you. The peacocks sing to each other in the morning and night. Being surrounded by these peaceful songs gives you a lot of energy flowing through your body.
Regeneration Effect Team: Dr. Yi, this is where I've been sleeping. Every time I wake up, I hear the chickens. What was your vision when you started building these cabanas?
Dr. Yi Song: I built these cabanas as a model for the eventual holistic retirement community I want to build on this property. It will be a nice cabin for anybody who wants to have some healing energy for two weeks or even several months out of the year to reflect and regenerate the body. That's my vision because this is inside nature and connected to the stream.
19:33 Making America Healthy Again
Regeneration Effect Team: The "Make America Healthy Again" movement is real where people now believe in taking control and being healthy in a natural way. Why is this movement real?
Dr. Yi Song: To make America healthy again, we need to find our root in nature. We don't want to just follow what the big pharmaceutical company tells us. The whole system set up by John D. Rockefeller back in 1910 was just to follow what doctors tell you. When you have symptoms, you just treat them with medications that they can make a lot of profit from. That's a responsive type of health system; they only treat symptoms, not the root cause. They want you on medications forever for cholesterol or high blood pressure. They don't want you to treat your high blood pressure with natural herbs that only cost you $20 per month instead of them making a big profit out of statin drugs. It's profit-driven, not for people's long-term health benefit.
Regeneration Effect Team: Was that a motivation for you?
Dr. Yi Song: I told my mom not to follow what doctors told her to do because she was born with very weak bones due to malnutrition. When she reached menopause, she had osteoporosis and doctors kept telling her she needed medications otherwise she would have a fracture. But my mom had reactions to all these medications. Up till this day, she hasn't taken any osteoporosis medication, but she has been using natural ways to help her bones. Even though her bone density is below average, she never broke a bone despite falling maybe 10 times since age 50. The secret is to evaluate your body's own condition because osteoporosis medication prevents your body from degrading already weakened bone, which doesn't actually prevent fractures. It's making your body even worse.
24:23 A Holistic Vision
Regeneration Effect Team: To tie it all in, what is your vision for the future?
Dr. Yi Song: My vision is to use all the natural resources we have and combine the knowledge from traditional Chinese medicine to recognize each person's constitution and early imbalance. We utilize modern technologies like red light therapy, infrared sauna, and even stem cell therapy. Everything has to be combined together in a holistic approach. We really need to address aging-related degenerate conditions so that people don't rely on medication and surgeries which reduce the quality of their lives.
Regeneration Effect Team: Awesome. Dr. Yi, it has been a great week for me. If people want to get in touch with you to learn about your practice, how can they do that?
Dr. Yi Song: They can go to my website regenerationeffect.com and if they want to look at the retreat environment, they can visit the Zenerchi Retreat. I have a new book coming out called Regeneration Effect: Secret Wisdom for Staying Young and we have a page for people to sign up for the pre-launch.
Regeneration Effect Team: Thank you, Dr. Yi.
Dr. Yi Song: Thank you. Very nice talking.
